Joyce DiDonato: ‘Emily - No Prisoner Be’ with Time for Three

A bold and intimate musical portrait of Emily Dickinson, where poetry and sound merge in a striking contemporary song cycle.

Event Details
Proclaimed “perhaps the most potent female singer of her generation” by The New Yorker, with a voice described by The Times as “nothing less than 24-carat gold”, Joyce DiDonato is one of the defining artists of our time. A multiple Grammy Award-winner and 2018 Olivier Award winner, she has captivated audiences worldwide across repertoire spanning four centuries.
We are delighted to welcome her to Amiata Music as Artist in Residence in our inaugural year, presenting the Italian premiere of ‘Emily — No Prisoner Be’ with her long-standing collaborators Time for Three. This 24-part song cycle by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts premiered at the Bregenzer Festspiele in 2025 before performances at major US venues including Carnegie Hall. Staged by Andrew Staples, the work sets the fiercely independent poetry of Emily Dickinson in a musical language blending classical, folk and contemporary influences.
DiDonato is also a tireless advocate for young artists, and following this performance she will lead masterclasses for singers from Mascarade Opera and local schools: a beautiful and fitting continuation of the project’s spirit of artistic freedom.
